I get many pms about Windows optimization, Win7 ET problems etc.. therefore I decided to create this thread for everyone.

To Run ET under Windows 7:

Create a shortcut on your desktop to run Enemy Territory. (Goto ET directory, right click on ET.exe and select create shortcut, move the created shortcut on your desktop)

Click on right mouse button on the created shortcut (which you have moved recently on your desktop), select properties, change target to something like that: "c:\program files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe" +connect bunker1.aaxxss.com. Click on compatibility tab, select Run this program as an administrator... Click on Apply and OK button..

Now goto etpub folder on your ET directory (If it doesn't exists, create a directory and name it etpub under ET folder) (If it's already exists, delete everything inside it, just keep the directory name: etpub)

Goto http://www.evenbalan...age=pbsetup.php and download pbsetup.exe and move it in the etpub folder
Goto http://www.evenbalan...ge=pbsvcfaq.php and download pbsvc.exe and move it the etpub folder

Run pbsvc.exe in your etpub folder and update your ET.
Run pbsetup.exe in your etpub folder to install punkbuster services.

Run the game. If you did everything correctly, ET should work perfectly under Windows 7.

Please note: Windows 7 is very stable, if you have any problem that means, probably you must update your BIOS and Drivers.

To update your bios: http://www.wikihow.c...Computer's-BIOS
To update your drivers: http://www.bleepingc...utorial119.html

If you want to boost your windows performance, I suggest you following softwares to keep your computer clean and fast:

1) System Mechanic. This is a great software to repair, clean, defrag windows registry and hard disks.. You can also increase your internet speed with this software. You can use it 30 days free.. http://www.iolo.com/...o/download.aspx

2) CCleaner. CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. http://www.ccleaner.com/download

3) Avira Antivir Personal. Avira's AntiVir remains one of the best freeware security solutions around. http://www.free-av.d..._antivirus.html

Same usable softwares for your pc:

To watch anything on your computer without installing any packs:
VLC Player. VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player and multimedia framework capable of reading most audio and video formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac ...) as well as DVDs, Audio CDs VCDs, and various streaming protocols. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

To download torrents:
Use uTorrent. http://www.utorrent.com/downloads

To compress, uncompress files:
Use 7Zip. http://www.7-zip.org/

To burn CD and DVD;
Use UltraISO. http://www.ezbsystem...so/download.htm

Good luck.

might want to add "+set com_hunkmegs 256" to that shortcut.

May I move this to FAQ's?

Thanks for the tutorial. I only hope microsoft realizes that they have to keep giving support for XP.

I heard about win7 troubles with ET and was scared.
But I have now ET running under win7 almost a week, and no troubles at all.
It still runs from my old copy in different hdd - what i used to play with xp and vista. It didnt even needed to "run as admin"

Tnx Keisko for the tutorial, I bet it helps lot of ppl.

Update your BIOS and Drivers.. Use System Mechanic to Tweak (boost) your network settings.

The key should be for win7:
\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\ET\etmain

That folder is hidden as far as I know.
