I get many questions from people how to change the resolution of the game to fit you're screen (max)

So I made this short tutorial howto.

First you need to know how to execute a script from within the game - it's not that hard and easily done.

A script is in basic a text file (with the extension *.cfg). within this file there is some plain text-commands that the game uses to change it's settings and stuff.

I made a *.cfg file with the setting for my situation.
This file is attached to this post and called "Wide screen resolution.cfg"
Attached File  Wide screen resolution.cfg   263bytes   3 downloads

You should put this (cfg = Config) file into you're main enemy territory directory.
(example : C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain)

From within the game PRESS the tilde key (~) and type :

/exec Wide screen resolution.cfg

Now you need to close the game and restart it.

You can also first observe the file just by opening it into an text-editor and you will see the text looks like this,

***************************************************************************************************************************

seta r_aspectratio 1
seta r_customaspect 1
seta r_mode -1
set r_fullscreen 1
set r_picmip 0

/// Change the 1920 and 1080 to fit you're screensize if you have the same resolution - don't change a thing ;)

seta r_customwidth 1920
seta r_customheight 1080

***************************************************************************************************************************

You don't need to change or edit this file if you're screen size is the same as mine - other wise change the resolution and save the file as a *.cfg

If you need further help just post it here or mail me. - Good luck ;)

the r_picmip 0 might cause horrible framerates on some maps. Cause of some textures having a to high resolution.
But if you want high quality, you might also want to try

cg_lodcurveerror 999
r_subdivisions 0

Didn't work for me.

Geek posted this because I told him that I wasn't able to play in widescreen. I get some stupid OpenGL mesages.
I got a new notebook (don't play much, so notebook is fine by me), but somehow OpenGL is a bitch.

hello m8 very nice. rather than haveing to restart et after you have exec the res config. you could add the following at the bottom for example:

//
// end
//

say "^Gvid_restart!" (this part just says vid restart in game so the client knows they have exec the cfg...you can remove if u dont like)
vid_Restart
