Lol, I'll change my settings back asap. - Except for m_pitch which seemed to help me at least a little.

My biggest point was that my experience with B1 silent is not the same as my experience with silent on other servers, so I'm having a hard time understanding why it's so different.

Also, I suppose it could also be lag related. @Neuro, yeah I notice the warping too. Even when I close all other programs that have a network connection the lag still happens, so it is definitely not related to anything I can control. I'm stuck on Comcast for a while, so I'm not sure it will get too much better. :\

Heh, no grenades and knives in water, but I bet bullets still kill just fine despite several feet of water.

And if you think "water covers not, bullets kill", please go find Mythbusters and a .50 caliber revelation.

We will give it some more time, then open a new poll to find everyone's opinion on keeping the mod or restoring to etpub.

I can tell you that the minor changes in game play are worth it to me just to get rid of the awful lag I was experiencing with the pub mod.  I have had consistent ping of 45 to 50 with no lag spikes or other interference.  I think this proves that the problem was NOT my local provider... because nothing else has changed but the mod.  I'll get used to silent rather than go back to ping swings of 300 to 900...

I doubt that changing the mod has helped your connection. It must be coincidental.

My ping (and others on comcast) is still horrible.  Combined with even worse packet loss, this has been almost unplayable for me.

Things I've noticed last night.

While you're getting hit with gun fire seams you get pushed/kicked more than in etpub. If you are near a wall or such you can't move away from it, you get pinned.

Panza you pull the trigger there is about a 3 or 4 second delay before the whined up sound begins, ultimately takes about 6 to 8 seconds to fire. Deff not like etpub.

After spotting a landmine it takes about 5 seconds before your team is notified it was spotted.

When in a gun fight strafing left and right seams a little sluggish especially if you get hit a couple times.

Would be nice to be able to throw nades and knifes out of water like in etpub (venice).

These are the main things I've noticed, I don't play the panza arena map don't like it so I'm not sure about gravity and such.

Seams the creators of silent have taken it apon themselves to make changes as they see fit rather than leaving them the way they were or making them configurable and letting the people using the mod configure things the way we want (etpub style). You would think they (silent team) would ask the people who play it their opinion before making such changes or a possible poll or thread discussion.

Hit boxes are very different as mentioned, I've snuck up behind someone put my crosshair right on the persons head and have not got a head shot (or the kill at times) sometimes that person turns and is  able to kill me rather than the other way around, which kinda don't make sence to me where I had the jump on them. Seams some guys have adapted to it better than others, although game play seams smoother it's going to take some time getting use to these changes and can be frustrating at times.

Does this version of Silent mod have a map voting option?

Would it be possible to use an older version of Silent that might allow for getting past some of the limits that they have imposed in the later versions?

I havent researched all of the versions and history of change so I am not sure if that is a smart question to be asking.

Well last night my ping jumped from 25 to 140. I thought my provider but I logged out and went to B10 and my ping was normal again.
Back to B1 and high ping again. My ping was normal here when it first started with this mod. I was wondering if it is this mod that causes higher pings or did something change.

**After reading Snoids comment on his ping swings and the change to his norm because of the mod, Im sure this mod has something to do with the ping issues aswell as mine. I logged in tonight and had a normal ping of 25, after about 3 min of play it jumped up again to 130 to 140. I went to B10 and it was normal at 25.

I have had no issue with B1, but now with silent mod it either hurts or helps some players. I am convinced that the mods must make a difference. No issue until this mod change. Butt, I still play somewhat with not a whole lot of lagg up until this point. Lets hope it goes back to normal on ping.

Pat,

IOW runs Silent mod as well.  I have a great ping to their server, great hit registry, no lag spikes, no packet loss.  Very consistent game play. It is not the mod.

Test it for yourself.  Join IOW just for one evening and see if you have the same issues on their server.

I think that your problem started when we changed to this temp server. Same as mine.

I get about 80% packet loss here and a very inconsistent ping.

I get this feeling, very uncertain, but....I think captn don't like this mod.

I agree with Captn's points about silent and I agreed on trying silent but after playing it a few nights now I find myself getting more and more frustrated and pissed off with it.

None of the issues I posted (#46) have been fixed, mainly the kick back and how sluggish it gets when you take fire and how sluggish it is in general also the points captn made about the mod.

I agreed to try silent but until another version comes out that address the problems and concerns the community have pointed out have been fix/configurable I've had enough of silent.

If you read their forum, it doesnt appear to me that it will get better, but only worse.  They seem to follow a "I dont care if you like it as long as I like it" approach to developing.

Most of my experience with Silent has been on IOW, which in my opinion is set up and running much better than what we have here.  Not sure why that is.  Possibly because our temp server is so laggy for me.  I dont enjoy playing this mod even a fraction as much on B1 as I do on IOW.  Just my 2cents there.

@Captn -

You really should lighten up.  You act as if someone took your candy bar away.  It was made clear when we started this whole mod change that it was going to be a trial.  If you have been paying attention, some of us who supported the mod change have already recanted because of the limitations of the server settings. While I do like this mod better (on a server that I dont fluctuate a full 100ms ping and have horrid packet loss), I never wanted the settings of B1 to be changed and since we cant set this mod up to run as it was on pub, I am not very happy with B1 being changed to Silent either.  I dont care for the limited distance mine spotting, the horrible kick when getting shot, the under water limitations, and a few other things. Some of those may still be fixable.  I do however like the hit boxes much better.

There is going to be another vote so try to chill out until we get to that point.  Some times I get the feeling that you think that it is the world against Captn when in reality, its just a bunch of people trying to figure out what is best for the server and trying to keep it populated.

Before you start claiming that Silent mod is a server killer, maybe you should pay attention to the population of FA Hardcore. It is one of the most populated servers in ET right now and it runs Silent Mod. All of this emotional thinking is not good for the health.  :)  I think if anything is going to kill the server it is going to be the lag and packet loss. I see far more complaints about that then the mod change.

I have liked Silent in the past. But this version not so much.  I would agree with using an earlier version of silent or reverting back to Pub.

On a side note, Is it possible to get a copy of the current configs?  Both the server.cfg from main folder and the silent.cfg from the silent folder.  Minus the secure information, ie. rcon pass etc.  Maybe I can help, not that I'm better at server cfg or server management, I'm not. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes may see something. Thanks

Bring back PUB, or change this current version to something we all can live with. Let's put together what needs to be fixed and if it doesn't fit bunker 1, then Put it back to Pub.

I'd be willing to lend an eye as well. A lot has apparently changed since Teets and I ran a Silent server, but there should still be a lot of flexibility to fix some of the issues that people are having.

It would be good to compile a working list of all the known issues. Then each issue can be addressed in turn. This should probably be done in a different thread, limiting comments to issues only and keeping the excess commentary out of it. It would be difficult to parse out all the concerns from this thread.

I have a hard time commenting on the state of the server right now because Comcast blows donkey balls. Even with the severe lag I'm experiencing, the gameplay does feel better. I can say without hesitation that Silent can play way better than Etpub, but the settings (as I remember) leave a lot of flexibility, and it takes a bit of work to find the butter zone.
